# What does 20 chars mean

what does 20 chars mean i have no clue and i always see posts that say 20 chars, im just wondering

There is a 20 character minimum to all posts on the discourse. The rule helps prevent spamming and other unnecessary messages. We use “20 chars” if we want to say something less than the minimum.

This rule _ **is** _ slightly different for PM’s though. The minimum is 10 characters there. So for PM’s, you’ll see “10chars” or something similar.
