I think you should add
if hero.isReady("cleave"):
hero.cleave(enemy)
altough the enemies might be a little to strong.I started the level with similar loot but barely made it alive

Try change
to item = hero.findNearestItem(). Make sure to capitalize the correct letters.
Also, could you tell us/show a screenshot of what the problem is? Thanks
