Unfortunately, they still do support him( Two different polls in Russia shows that 70% of russians support Putin’s actions and tell that he “does everything right” last days.
Yep, It’s hard and complicated question. On one hand there are many russians who live out of Russia for a long time. Sometimes they leave homeland because they didn’t liked russian government and it’s actions in inner and outer political life, sometimes they are indifferent about such things and just looked for better life and chances to start some kind of own business or opportunity to grow their children in conditions that are much more better than in russia (education, medicine and perspectives of work and carrier I mean)… But I also see lots of russian people that live in USA, or Europe, or Turkey or Australia and so on - and they still support Putin and this war. And often they hate country they are living now and its culture ((
Also this war was started with proclamations of “protection of russian-speaking” inhabitants of Ukraine (in fact russia started to violate international lows in 2014 with annexation of Crimea and blowing up conflict in Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine). And now people of other countries, especially in Eastern Europe, fear that Russia will came with its troops to “save” russian-speaking people that live or have come last time to live in this countries.
Ironically, russia ruined and are still bombing the most russian-speaking regions and cities of Ukraine, situated in North-eastern, Eastern and Southern Ukraine.
Also last polls (there are doubts about right methodology of them, but the results are quite close to the reality I’d say) show that majority of people i Russia:
supports Putin;
supports the war in Ukraine;
supports intervention to other countries of Europe (like Poland/Lithuania/Latvia) after capturing of Ukraine.
But we have to remember that they aren’t giving all the information to Russia. I’ve heard (correct me if I’m wrong) that they’ve cut off things like Facebook and twitter so they don’t see how bad Putin’s actions are. They’re only getting the information the government want them to get, so it’s a small wonder they support him.
It’s very nice and touching, and I deeply appreciate this gesture of help, support and kindness of you, your family, your friends and other people you know. But I would ask you not to cut meals anymore. Many countries and organizations are helping Ukraine now with money, food, clothes etc, so it’s unfair to ask common people to cut their bills for the food. Such help of countries and organizations is formed with taxes, so I think usual people shouldn’t “pay twice”)
Well, one can’t enforce other people to take the truth.
Two problems: propaganda and mentality. Even before Facebook blockage ruaaians were so poisoned with official propaganda that they don’t want to listen to any point of view or information, that differs from what they think.
The thing is that I’m ethnical russian - my parents are from rural and very periphery area of Russia. I was born and grew in Kyiv, Ukraine. And in my passport there is note “russian” in line “nationality”. I spent every summer till the end of my teen years in the village my parents came from, so I know a thing or two about Ukraine and Russia both.
For last decades political, cultural, social life formed very bad human’s psychology in Russia: "there are only enemies around us/our country ", “western countries want to conquer us”, “Russia has its own “special way””, “country need “strong hand”” ans so on. Also in russian language and culture there are contemptuous “nicknames” for other nations/inhabitants of other countries: Ukrainians, Italians, Americans, Asians, people from Poland, Finland, Belarusia, Caucasus, and even distant regions of Russia itself, like Chukotka. In some manner this reminds me abot Nazist Germany in 1930-1939 before WW2(
Not to say unfounded words…
In short - this is Sanct-Petersburg in Russia, that very city that came through germany nazis’ blockade and hunger while WW2. And this old lady proclaims “1939-1945 Never again! War in Ukraine and Siria is a shame of Russia. Business of war is amoral and leads to death”.
The second banner is about well-known russian poet, songwriter and singer Bulat Okudzhava, who wrote a lot anti-war songs. The video aploaded in 2019 and taken even earlier I suppose, on may 9th, so it could be any year between 2014 and 2018. Facebook and other medea weren’t blocked yet. But…
As you see, 99,99% russians don’t support her thoughts and many of them are aggressive to her. “Shame on you” they say, and “How you could say such things about the country you are live in?”.
Me and my family is fine, thanks. As for Ukraine - it depends on a region. The most worst is Mariupol, I suppose - it’s a real Hell now( Also Chernihiv, Kharkiv, several small towns around Kyiv are really bad. Lots of villages on occupied areas. People are dying(
But in some way it could be said that things are getting better. Occupants stull didn’t get us and Ukraine is struggling still)
It must be even more painful to be an ethnic Russian in a similar but still separate country (and who loves that country) that then gets invaded and wrecked by Russia.
its suprising that Ukriane is still standing strong against Russia, but this may not last long. there are some words that Putins is on the verge on nuking countries if he fails counquering Ukraine. bad thing is that Russia is only country with the most warheads. only NATO can out warhead Russia. Putin has already survived a Nerve agent, making him more crazed and being careful on letting poeple near him.
I SO WISH THAT UKRAINE CAN BE LEFT IN PEACE
I doubt Putin will nuke other NATO countries. If he did, NATO would retaliate, destroying Russia. Those threats are probably rumors by the press. Besides, Putin probably has family in Russia.
If he is certain he will be killed, he could actually nuke the NATO countries. He even said himself, if
other countries interfere he will give them consequences they have never experienced before.
Even so, I doubt that very many Russians would be happy if Putin did try to nuke Nato countries, as Russia would be nuked as well. Some Russians may not go through with launching the nuclear missiles if they feel that that action would put their lives at risk.
