Kithgard Mastery can not be played unless you already have a weapon

I tried the level Kithgard Mastery on an unsaved account without completing any level, but it will not allow me to play unless I get the simple sword (or any other weapon). Is this a bug or is this normal to happen?

I think you need to play some levels before you can do Kithgard Mastery. Including the one where you get a sword.
Kithgard Mastery isn’t unlocked if you haven’t done any other levels so it’s not that surprising. Is there a reason you thought you would be able to do it?

Kithgard Mastery: Awards Simple Sword?

You automatically get to equip it to play the level, but you don’t get to keep it until it is awarded. (The idea is that Kithgard Mastery can be beaten for those players who want to skip the whole dungeon without missing out on necessary game items found therein.)
