Is it worth it to subscribe to CodeCombat if I’m not really gonna play it that much? I just wanna beat the game and then be done.

I started on the free version and found that I was slow to learn, and I wanted to be able to get more practice. So for me it was really helpful to subscribe. Now I’ve got through (nearly all) the levels, I’m going through in another language and I’d find it boring to do all the levels again. So the free version is great.
If you know a bit about programming already then I’d say stick to the free version, but if you’re finding it gets too hard too quickly then subscribe at that stage.

Well, there so many levels to beat being a subscriber that you’re not going to play just for a while. But yes, the subscription is really worth, you’ll receive a lot of more gems doing the levels that you’ll get from it.
