Yeah the tower defense ones are getting REALLY boring. And super laggy.
although they are prob easyer to make
I wish for an AI league (or an arena in general) that makes the two sides do something different. It always didnāt make much sense to me why there were two sides but the only thing they did with them was just using them for mirroring. Sure it may be harder to balance, but with enough effort it should work well.
usualy both sides can interact with the other team in differeant ways
what if clans were the ones battling each other and there are 30 people per clan so that people donāt all go into the winning clan.
that wouldnāt work for a.i league beacause a.i leaugh is somewhat seperate from code combat but it could be new featrue at some point
There is one that I know of, Wakka Maul which is balanced mostly okay, but the humans are slightly stronger in general than the ogres.
I wonder how that would work for determining the winner of a season though.
i think he meant that you would randomly be assighed to a team every match and you had to have code for both but i might be wrong
not related to strategy, how about using flower or stone? they may make the an arena with a different atmosphere.
It's better to just make a tower defense
Some feedback for improvement opportunities from this season provided by users of all ages:
- Game outcomes should not vary significantly due to being
RED
orBLUE
. This was documented here (sorta). Likewise, many players 1v1ād opponents they had lost to in simulation and could not understand why given that they won from their perspective. - Game grids should not be subject to gamesmanship. This was detailed and exploited (with a white hat) by the BBA in this post during one studentās brief landing in the #1 spot when he was able to get to #1 spot by doing some skullduggery.
- Game grids should not change during the competition. This was rather maddening to one player who had a very solid routine in place only to find it suddenly consistently die in the first 10 seconds by slamming into the wall. I realize this was made because of the above point, but at some point the game parameters should be locked.
- A possible solution to this wall issue might be to have hitting the walls not necessarily be losing, but rather have players bounce off. While in a perfect world no parameters would be changed during season, at least in this case quality code would not suddenly be beaten by garbage loop codes that just go in a square.
- Debugging. This is probably a topic thatās been brought up, and maybe thereās a method that is less known to users, but it is very frustrating to depend on the console log to debug variables. This is also not an accurate representation of what coding is in the āreal worldā. Nearly all coding environments have a way to run code through to a certain line with a list of variables and values assigned to them displayed.
Overall this AI combat concept is a fantastic platform for kids to problem solve, so I very much hope it continues. Unfortunately, the above issues did frustrate several kids to the point they did not engage in this season as much as in previous seasons. Hopefully, this feedback proves useful. I may reach out directly to a few individuals who appear to be admins in this process with offers to assist.
Thank You!
I donāt know if what Iām saying is correct, but itās possible,my mirror actually lost Starry(@riticmaster908), but I uploaded it three times and got a win every time, because it was probably a small issue with the animation (my x or y would be offset), but as far as the actual upload, I really 's won.
Could the end of season video with the commentary be added back? It was the highlight of the season and it was really disapointing when it was replaced with a video that was basically just watching every battle and seeing all the winners code.
I agree, I was pretty disapointed when I won last season but they didnāt even have @nick show up.
If we canāt get the hyperx gear as prizes for each bracket, could we split up the $1000 scholarship for each bracket so that some people can have a chance at winning something?
They removed the hyper prizes! Bruh I was considering potentially returning to the a.i league but it aināt worth it any more
250$ per bracket sounds pretty good ngl
Yeah but most colleges cost like 1,000 per month or more so 250 would be for like a week or something.
But not all of the players are in college, most are younger
I just said that because itās a scholarship not a spend-all-your-money-on-pokemon-cards-and-legos
