The AI League decline. (Codecombat as a whole)

Recently, I have not seen anything on the AI League tournaments. Pawns Passage is still left as Beta, its april and no new tournament has been released, (since theres a practice and then official) and I havent seen anything about the recent AI Leagues. Another problem is that codecombat is for kids. People from ages 6 all the way to 18 are the main playerbase, except adults who saw the money go to a KIDS coding tournament, use their college knowledge (hehe rhyme) and beat the everliving daylights out of these kids who work hard. For example, the recent winners (such as Ben) have all been adults (Open bracket) and while geniuses like @Buddeycc and @Unholy_Maker are strong competitors, there is almost nothing kids can do against these adults, with prior coding experience in a field. I belive this is because codecombat as a whole has started to decline. We havent gotten a meaningfull update since the winged boots dropped, (yes i know codecombat junior exists) and theres a lingering topic that has been unsolved for MANY years now. Where is volcano? At this point the volcano world is more like a Mountain, never releasing and just being a “trust we are working on it” kind of thing, with many people making april fools of it such as @Deadpool198’s wonderfull artwork “teaser” of the world. Instead of adding these new, low-effort things such as codecombat junior, we (Im speaking for most of the playerbase here) would like the volcano world, and some new heros. Last hero? Usara back in 2021-2022 (might be earlier). Nowadays, every update is just “Oh new ring this new boots that” and nothing really meaningfull. You can see this in the discourse and coding itsself, as codecombat is more of a easy cashgrab for adults instead of a learning enviornment. And the cause of this? The removal of free levels. Back in the day (unc yapping omg) you could play 1/3 of the levels for free and learn alot off of this. Now? 5 levels. The first 5. Which keep in mind, teach you almost NOTHING. I get that they are a company, and companies need profit, but I would either lower the subscription cost so more people can access these great levels, or add more free levels. My suggestion? bring back lifetime but for 150$. And, make dungeon, forest, and the first few levels of desert free. This would bring in more players, whilst still bringing in profit to pay the developers. I know I’m just a kid whos not even 13 but i would highly enjoy if codecombat looked at these issues and fixed some of them.

I agree with everything you just said @riticmaster908. There hasn’t been a new hero in ages and CodeCombat has stopped the HyperX awards for the AI League. They have also stopped the commentary for the AI League seasons, and the videos altogether. I was really disappointed when I got 2nd place in the Anti-Gravity season and found out that @nick wasn’t doing commentary anymore. A lot of people on CodeCombat has been waiting for the volcano world to be released for years now, including me. Also, in the AI League now, kids have to compete against adults just to get an award since the HyperX awards were canceled. The CodeCombat discourse is also declining. It is basically run by @A.Lee452, and @enPointe77 since @Chaboi_3000 hasn’t been active. My dad and I been concerned that CodeCombat is falling apart and that the AI League won’t last much longer. @Chaboi_3000 and @nick, please tell us if CodeCombat is actually struggling as a company.

If you were concerned, you would have probably checked Nick’s website and see this:

So I think the person you should ping is Venneth, as he is the most active Moderator for now.

That is true and I think we should have HyperX awards. We also should try to prevent Code combat from falling and try to make the AI league last longer. By the way, my name is Xander and I agree with all of you guys about the AI league falling.

I also echo what rictmaster and fastfisch have said. I joined CodeCombat about three years ago, and it was AMAZING! The AI League was exiting, the levels were informative and great too, but after a year or two, things started to go of the rails. A couple of bugs here and there in the levels started to show up, and I got stuck on things that I didn’t know, and couldn’t learn because the teaching wasn’t very upfront on what they wanted me to do. I slowed down doing levels and started focusing more on the AI League after that. But when the HyperX prizes disapeared, I kinda lost motivation, because getting the top prize was extreamly difficult.
I understand that Code Combat is trying to focus on getting schools to use your product, but it would be great if Code Combat got a big revamp.

I only step in when necessary :skull:

Btw guys, I know this place is dying and I agree with some of your points. But the CoCo server on discord is more active if you ever needed a place with more CoCo coders. Obviously there’s help here lol, but thought I’d throw that point out.

In fact, in August last year, when I saw the HyperX awards disappear from the homepage, I felt something was wrong. From that time, I thought this company was slowly dying.

Depending fully on AILeague would not work as it is only a subbranch. They should realize the majority of CoCo players are not into AILeague arenas and does not really know what it is, and the people who are actually paying for the game are either CS teachers (for their students) or obsessed students.

The same thing happened with me. Once I got into the glacier levels, I couldn’t figure out how to get past them so I started doing the AI League and arenas. CodeCombat should have videos so people can learn the content better, instead of just giving comments and hints for them to read.

I’ve been doing CodeCombat since 2021-2022ish, I completed Ozaria and {I think} all of CodeCombat and 2 chapters of game Dev. I started AI league during supercharged for a class w/ friends and have been loving it ever since. I can definitely see where you guys are coming from with the prizes (like @fastfisch )and the delayed final arena. I love @riticmaster908 point about adults in AI league as an 11yr old. I also agree with @iggymaster99 with what he said about early CoCo, and how the levels were more vague as time went on. A big revamp would also be great for CodeCombat. I still enjoy AI league and work on it almost every day, however I was disappointed when the final area was never made public.

SAME! :call_me_hand: Other than being in this since 2021 and 2022 because I just started here a couple days ago.

I agree that AI League and Codecombat need a revamp, but I would like to point out that AI League has never been won by an adult, always by someone in 11-14 or 14-18. Additionally, the only reason that the Pawn’s Passage topic is still beta is because nobody made another one. Also, it does seem strange that the new AI League arena should be released, as usual in April, but that AI League website says May
