I was planning to return to codecombat and was eager to see if there are anything new to try out, but besides new tournaments, there haven’t been an update in quite a long time. No new items, levels, or heroes (Volcano world that is hinted before with ??? is now totally gone). Is codecombat development dead? If so, why and how? I would love to know how I could help support the community and revive this old favourite of mine.
Hey let’s be polite. I’m sure the mods are working on cc, not “stealing money”. Also wouldn’t recommend talking crap about the people who made this discourse
he didnt say that he said they “just want money” and i disagree with him i think there focus has just shifted to schools for now but idc about him saying it he has the right to his own opinion
I’m not saying he can’t I’m just saying he could be more polite about it
I believe Venneth said recently that they’ve been putting much more effort into AI League especially rather than focusing on more main learning levels.
I’m pretty new to codecombat. The reason I joined it is because the forums have good SEO, so I decided to check out the game. I couldn’t tell you if it was dead.
AI League is good, but my point is that you can’t just have all talks and no action.
Like the volcano, the item suggestions, the future “ice gear” and “torus gear” are said, but it is been almost 7 years and where are they?
The most thing that is disgusting is that they made only the first few levels free, and then players are forced to pay at least 10 bucks a month. If players aren’t having interest, then they certainly will not have the willingness to pay for especially a “learning game”. It is a double lose situation.
Keeping stuff in plain code is already good enough. There is no point making blocks and transitioning into those blocky code adventure type games. CodeCombat is special because of CODE and GAME at the same time, and it is something that was unique and one of a kind back then. The point of adding a beginner island of 150 levels is just the worst decision ever. The dungeon is already easy enough.
AI League is definitely great, but that is not the best way to regain their players. Only around a thousand people play AI League and you have to give away a thousand dollars as the price. Why just not reinforce the existing multiplayer arenas and maybe do something with them as well? These arenas are also one of the reasons the last players are still playing.
Also I liked that AP Computer Science Principles course. Working with classrooms and advertising is great. Most people I believe started playing because their teacher introduced it in either school or another educational institute, including me as well. Education is probably the best way of getting players as it is a “learning game”.
LITERALLY those AP courses CoCo used to offer was so amazing, like why did they stop doing it? Come on, the devs need to know what is actually benefitical. Keep doing AI League on and on will not solve the issue. (The course had pretty good quality though and I got a 5, it is more flexible than some AI League top 3)
I’m sorry, but didn’t you make a whole topic on this point already
I think everyone understands your concerns, and I don’t remember how the mods replied to them, but I would recommended rereading them if they ever replied. Or perhaps posting this complaint in your previous topic. Glad you are interested in CoCo improving tho
Yeah ik that, but this is why they are dead
I agree with a lot of your points except for the one about them making it paid because imo it makes sense to make it cost money and not just be half the game free. I think the pricing could be different (specifically bringing back lifetime subscription) but having to pay for it is fine with me
wut de heck is going on here lol
a conversation.
Yes totally. Having to pay is fine, but not when only like 5 levels are available. Players should at least get somewhere though before they have the interest to pay
I have no intention of paying.
imo they should prolly make like half the dundgeon free that way their not giving away a bunch of the cource like before but not giving almost nothing like now
I learned a good deal of web development on w3schools last year. just a few months, and I could make a website (with some help from SO). I don’t think these games with characters that move around are really that helpful to make people learn coding. say, you want to print a message to the document in JS. CoCo doesn’t show you how to do that. All I can really imagine them teaching is loops and data types like JSON and functions.
yes, I learned the very basics from Codecombat. also, I have learned to figure things out by trial and error. surely, we cant learn development from CoCo. but I think it is important what CoCo teaches. if you want to learn development, you can use other services.
They should make it so you can do up to desert without a membership (altho I have lifetime so idrc)
really, if your looking to get a job in programming, learn the basics, look stuff up on Google, tinker with it, read other’s code, look up what it means, make your own project. this is really just what I did, and I don’t think I’m too bad, but what does =>
mean?? (edit: it’s a fancy shorthand function)
I dont think anyone still plays it i think people only use the discourse
