I have a teacher account, permitting me to create a private clan. However, my students also must have a subscription to join my private clan. Is that correct?
If I use a public clan, will I be able to see the progress of my students who join that clan?

They do need a subscription.
You can still check people’s progress in public clans by clicking on the links to their profiles. See example clan for example. The difference of being the clan leader is you can edit the clan’s name and description as well as kick people out.
Right, and you can see a lot more detailed progress for each of your students in the private clan version and do other things like loading up their code.
