Subscription madness

Making only the first 5 levels free seems impractical. Here’s the issue: new players often lack extensive experience in the game, and after an initial period, they’re forced to pay, even without knowing what awaits in the later levels. This situation could lead to many players giving up. Personally, I prefer the previous system where I would beg my mom for a sub as it’s very intriguing (around 5yr ago).

I understand the developers’ desire to increase their earnings, but this approach may not yield favorable results. They seem to have overlooked the importance of considering their customers’ sentiments. The decision to pay or not is often influenced by the customers’ preferences. When you compel people to make payments, they might opt to quit, especially when they’ve just begun and the game hasn’t quite captured their interest yet.

Nobody is bashing codecombat. Actually most of the people agree that is a potentially good game with many great things.
All we are saying is, that the subscription system as it currently stands is very bad and has so many disadvantages.
Many potential players (same for me) are discouraged to play the game because it’s just not enough test material to justify subscribing for a monthly payment. Most people won’t subscribe to something that they can’t test enough.

Ok ok but my thing is that $10 is not a lot to pay for a month

It’s not about the 10$. It’s about the subscription. I don’t want to automatically pay money every month for a game that I might drop in a few weeks. If I just forget about the game and don’t check my balance for a longer time, I’ll be paying money for nothing. Just give a 10$ pre-pay option without the subscription part.

but you can pay for it and then cancel so it does not auto renew also if you want a game don’t play codecobat only play codecombat if you want a learning game if you want a purely fun game go buy a game on steam

Now you are acting immature. He’s pointing out, what you said was pretty off topic and offensive. Why do you must pay for a learning game?

why would they give away a learning game for free? and it just anoys me that he was just talking about the subscription and then you just come in and start saying every single little flaw in codecombat

Yes, but that’s additional work on my side of the contract. For them it would only be a tickbox that automatically cancels the contract after one month. That’s about 2 minutes of coding. They just don’t want that option.

They don’t need to give away a learning game for free. That’s not what I want. Everything has it’s price. And that goes for educational games too. But if a user doesn’t get the chance to properly evaluate the game, most of the time he will be pessimistic about the value and quit instead of subscribing.

Ok, so can we please stop fighting over personal opinions? The whole reason for this discussion was to give feedback to the management of codecombat. It might be a great game, but I’ll never know until there is a different aproach to the payment system. I just wanted to raise awarnes to the problem that they are loosing players by not providing a fair ground for deciding. Me and others would love to get like one or two ours of playtime before deciding if the game is worth the subscription.
Please keep in mind that this is FEEDBACK. It’s my own opinion. My opinion might be total bs and the majority of people might have other opinions, but I still want to share mine with the devs/mngmnt, so that maybe other sharing or OPPOSING this opinion might be heard and a solution is found which hopefuly benefits the comunity.
Every voice counts when trying to change something for the better. I did my part in sharing mine.

ok i will stop fighting but just so you know it takes like 5 minutes to make it so the sub does not renew

A day far, I started CodeCombat for free. I solved the levels well and suffered from Clash of Clones. I was not able to solve it at the time.
A long time later, I tried again and was able to break through that level, then I conquered the levels in cloudrip while enjoying using for-loop and Boss Star.
Finally, I reached the most difficult hurdle, Grim Determination and Summits Gate. I feel that the experience and desperate combat in cloudrip become my force even now.

Recently, I recommended my friend codecombat and knew that new player need a subscription. I was extremely disappointed.

Players wouldn’t be able to judge this game in the first 5 levels. These are only monotonous task, so these levels can’t be reason to subscription.
And one more thing. Unfortunately, player might not be able to subscription for some reasons. As an example, They may be underage. As for myself, I don’t have the credit card. I have to make the credit card for only subscription.
But the person gained experience for young age will be stronger than other. So it could be an obstacle for future capable players, I think…
