To start find a branch that tends to give you a level easily. Go for hammer if you want to upgrade faster.

Dead tree/log. Axe is better for pvp and pickaxe is better for farming a lot of resources

Daggers. For most gameplay the best setup is:
Age 1: whatever weapon doesn’t matter
Age 2: Cookie
Age 3: Stone spikes
Age 4: Stone bow/shield
Age 5: Saddle
Age 6: golden version of your weapon
Age 7: Croissant
Age 8: Boost Pad
And now you just keep upgrading your items
(At age 10 pick bow or cross bow it doesn’t matter. Pick whatever you are most comfortable with)
