Pender is the best in my opinion
It was a pretty hard decision. I was stuck between Hattori, Senick, and Okar. Hattori is simply because he was the first subscriber hero I unlocked(Favorable Odds), and cost 1000 
. For Senick, I used him the longest as he was unlocked early(Deadly Pursuit) and cheap(1440 ). Back then, there were about half as many heroes than there is now, and heroes had to be unlocked via. level completion, so it had a sense of progression. (Not sure why they removed it…) I chose Okar, though, because it took me an eternity to obtain him. He was unlocked in Stranded in the Dunes, but even my Senick w/ Gift of the Trees struggled to live to the end. I was using a 2012 macbook pro, so performance issues were evident. In the end, it took me about a whole entire month of effort to finish Stranded in the Dunes. It’s a serious disappointment they removed Hero Unlock Levels, because now there’s no sense of achievement when you finish the hero-unlocking level. 
I think ritic or nalfar it was very hard but ritic was a bit stronger when i tested
